from senior administration officials. the president denying the report with judge jeanine last night. >> well, i would. i don't care. i had a conversation like every president does. you say what the president of various countries. i do with all countries. eric: ellison barber has more on the lawn of the white house. >> president trump has gone to great lengths to conceal details of his conversations with russian president vladimir putin. that is according to the "washington post." the white house denies it. press secretary sarah sanders said that the report in the post is outrageously inaccurate. she went on to say the liberal media has wasted two years trying to manufacture a collusion scandal besides the fact that president trump has actually been tough on russia. u.s. officials say there's no detail record even unclassified files of trump's files of trumps face-to-face interactions with the russian leader in five

locations over the last two years. the article notes such a gap would be unusual in any presidency, let alone one site to install three u.s. agency has described as unprecedented campaign of election interference. this is not the only article raising questions about the president's behaviors related to russia. the report in "the new york times" claim the investigators into president trump after he fired fbi director james comey to try and determine whether or not mr. trump is working for russia without realizing he'd fallen under the in lengths of moscow. when asked if he's ever worked for russia now or in the past that president trump told fox jeanine the question was insulting. >> i think it the most insulting thing i've ever been announced. i think it's the most insulting article i've ever had written. if you read the article you've had absolutely nothing.

>> corruption at the fbi, the highest level of the fbi by people like comey and andrew mccabe. democrats say that this shows there were very serious concerns among fbi agents and it also shows why it is so important to try and protect special counsel robert mueller and make sure he's able to finish his investigation. >> thanks so much. >> meanwhile the longest in u.s. history now and day 23. president trump treating this weekend that he was alone in the white house waiting to make a deal with democrats. republican senator lindsey graham say he's trying to convince the president to reopen government first but mr. trump all given without a border wall deal. at least one democratic race for senator graham. >> you should reopen the government and spend several weeks renegotiating over what we can all agree on. i personally don't think that a border wall is in and of itself

immoral. >> live now with more from washington. >> president trump says democrats are holding up negotiations, which could in the government shutdown. he tweeted today, quote, the damage done to our country from a badly broken border, drugs, crime and so much bad is far greater than a shutdown. which the dems can easily fix as soon as they come out to washington. the president said on fox last night that he doesn't want to declare a national emergency until he's given democrats another chance to work it out. >> it would take me 15 minutes to get a deal done and everybody could go back to work. i'd like to see them act responsibly and they're not acting responsibly. i'm in the white house and most of them are in different locations. they are watching a certain musical in a very nice location. >> you speaking about the congressional hispanic caucus is

meeting in puerto rico this weekend. according to a fox news producer from new jersey democratic senator bob menendez says photographed on the beach. although they will not say which members of congress are on the strip. the group did see the musical hamilton while they are, which was partly a fund raiser for puerto rico. how does this standoff and -- how does this standoff over border security and? one top senate democrat. >> it ends when the senate republicans say we've had enough. we are not going to stand here and be blamed for this. we believe the government should be open. there should be timely negotiations after the government is open. >> the president should take one last stab before declaring a national emergency. >> i would urge them to open up the government for a short period of time like three weeks before he pulls the plug. see if we can get a deal. if we can't at the end of three weeks, all bets are off.

into missouri, iowa, illinois and indiana. slick roads caused accidents that killed three people. they warned people not to get behind the wheel, showing this crash here in your screen. 2:00 yesterday afternoon they got nearly 4000 calls for service and responded to 870 crashes at that point. at one point delays for as long as eight hours. the story moving eastward where the ralph northam has declared a state of emergency there. d.c. expecting up to a foot of snow. freezing rain will be the biggest danger for the south coast up to half an inch of ice can accumulate in some areas. although winter weather is wreaking havoc on airlines. washington d.c., 154 delays. numbers are a bit better with more than 100 delays. 68 cancellations and more than 200 delays. as the storm tapers off a

looming concern is power outages. nearly 100 or 2000 customers are in the dark. missouri has just under 50,000 they have no power. some cities offering overnight warming shelters for folks without power. not see any snow today, but expect them dangerously low temperatures and keeping her overnight shelter open all week. arthel: jacqui heinrich, thank you. eric: now getting a first look at the home of the suspect accused of kidnapping a wisconsin teenager, killing her parents in order to take her. 21-year-old jake paterson on the left grew up in the remote area and township of gordon, wisconsin. that is where 13-year-old told authorities she had been held captive for nearly three months. thankfully she escaped just last week. investigators have not been able to find any connection with the

what's your read on this? >> it's odd. there's no question the story is very strange especially when you take into account the odds are as we've seen over the last months and years about the trump campaign and russia. that said, i don't think this is a smoking gun of collusion. if you look at the details of the story. the two major meetings, the other was in helsinki. the one in hamburg who took the interpreter's note in rex tillerson was on that meeting. so trump i don't think would be acting nefariously with rex tillerson mayor. as we know now is no big fan of the president. i'm sure rex tillerson would be happy to open up about that now. the most concerning one was in helsinki where there is no cabinet officials. it seems that not many were briefed at the fact. the most benign explanation is

this function in the national security establishment for donald trump doesn't trust the people who work for him. but it would be good to know exactly what went on at that meeting. >> especially since i lasted two hours. >> it's very strange. what was said at that meeting? why do more people in his national security team not know about that? that is something congress is going to be interested in trying to find out, specially now that democrats control the house. one of those things where it's another odd thing on top of other odd meeting that occurred over the last two or three years at the trump campaign in the trump administration with russia. something certainly not definitive and were not going to know the details of whether there is one there until we see what robert mueller issues with this report. arthel: meanwhile commencing her democratic lawmakers with their cloak of secrecy at unprecedented and disturbing.

so what i'll should president trump due to put to rest any doubt or concern is something underhanded having taken place with vladimir putin or does he need to do anything? >> he could do something if he really wanted to. he could have the interpreter testify before congress. that would be something somewhat unprecedented but would probably put some of the concerns to rest if it was a normal meeting. once you conduct foreign policy is as they do in this scenario. either people that you trust that come to the meetings with you. it seems that the very best explanation he doesn't trust the national security team that is put in place because he doesn't want them at the meetings with them. that's the best explanation and not a very good explanation. >> other u.s. presidents have had conversations with russian president vladimir putin. however, the outline and "washington post," president trump has this miss russia's

interference is a hoax, suggesting russia was entitled to annex -- entitled to a annexed crimea repeatedly attacked nato allies, resisted efforts to impose sanctions on moscow and have begun to pull u.s. forces out of theory i'm at the ceding ground to russia. so is this backdrop what makes this different? >> he certainly has a soft spot for russian vladimir putin that might not mean there is collusion there. but he's always had a soft spot certainly for kind of strong men leaders who can impose their will. to be fair, the counter side will say enough the white house said they put sanctions on russia. they've been tough on russia in arms to ukraine against russia. so that is their side of the story. arthel: it's my understanding that was mostly driven by congress. >> i was going to add that with distinction.

he didn't want to put extra sanctions on. congress kind of boxed him in there. that's the white house side of the story. arthel: so if in fact putin is trying to manipulate president trump somehow, does concealing conversation play into the hands? >> the one thing it does do it even if president trump had good intentions going in there with his private meeting is that if no one on this team knows what donald trump said, he might have audio, he can hold that over the president if the president suddenly goes back on a promise he made there. even with good intentions, it could give vladimir putin and advantage over the president. it's just strange. the most benign explanation of this shows this function in the national security apparatus. donald trump doesn't even trust his own national security team. arthel: if we can switch gears to tuesday and they, would you think is going to happen in the william bar hearing, of course

president trump's nominee for the new ag position. >> i think it's going to be pressed very hard on a lot of issues, initially apparently is unsolicited memo to rod rosenstein taking the president's side. why did she do that? that's a strange thing to do if your private lawyer sending a memo like that. he's going to be pressed very hard and ultimately concerned because a lot of people in congress think he's a better choice than what is the worst-case scenario could be for donald trump to nominate to be the next attorney general is certainly a better case scenario at least in their view the current act in attorney general. eric: jamie weinstein, we leave it there. see you next time. >> israeli prime minister benjamin that yahoo! has made a rare public admission in the years of silent over attacks in syria. what prime minister netanyahu sad and why coming up.

government shutdown stretches into its fourth week. so, what is it going to take to try and bring the standoff to an end? david hawkins, editor-in-chief of the firewall. you are longtime observer. you seen your share of stalemates and filibusters did nothing like this. what you think it will take? >> that's right. quite literally nothing like this. i was around for what is now the second longest shutdown in 95, 96. i will point to the shutdown. it's a basic political calculus. which is politicians want to do what's in their best interest and for the president and republicans in congress who for an hours ticking with them. they have got to conclude clearly that the political pain of sticking with the wall and for republicans in the senate, especially exceeding the gain.

right now they don't see it that way, but i would say there's pulling out this weekend that it's getting closer. you probably talked about them earlier in the day. both of which show about 30% blame the democrats for the shutdown and in the mid-50s, 55% blamed the president and republicans. >> we have the poll. but show it on the screen. this is the "washington post" poll that shows president trump in the gop 53% blaming democrats 29%. by 53% number is getting past the majority blaming president and republicans. >> another way of looking at the democratic number is not the sort of a proxy for the president's base of support. the president's support has always been in the upper 30s to the low 40s. it's drifted down into the low

30s. that's about his floor. the president likes to govern to his base. that is what is driving political calculus has been for two years to appeal to that base and it's getting tight there. he doesn't have too much more room to play with. one of the things i wonder if the base is very, very supportive of him, very trusting, believing. there is certainly a way and it's surprising to me he hasn't done what he said before, which is sort of declared it to read and call an end to this thing saying i studied this and figured it out and there's ways we can keep building the wall and keep moving forward and for now let's reopen the government. if you really want to build a wall let's make this the 2020 reelection issue. >> he rejected mike pence 2.5 -- if you don't have a wall or now that steel fence going up.

>> absolutely true. other times the president has stuck with some pretty solid negotiations for a long time and then back to wales said that was then. this is now. i would say when we talk about when will it end, here's something i do one offered you, which is the state of the union addresses on the 29th. it would be very interesting to see if the president believes he could calm do a nationally televised speech before a highly partisan room in congress and be able to say what every president wants to say. the state of our union is strong. you want to be able to say that at the top. with that pass the smell test of the quarter of the government is still shutdown of what his base think it's fine to have the quarter of the government will shut down. conservative republicans say fine, keep it shut down. we don't care. we don't like the government anyway. could that still work for him in two weeks? >> it'll either be resolved by then work with the president go

as much of a rhetorical victory is possible, reopen the government and move on. >> will get back to you. david, always good to see you. >> fox news alert secretary of state mike pompeo raven in saudi arabia today as part of his middle eastern tour. he's due to meet with saudi crown prince mohammed bin salman. following the story from riyadh. reporter: arthel can the secretary of state has several high-level meetings. the state department says the secretary will discuss u.s. policy in syria and towards iran could the secretary says he will discuss the murder of jamal khashoggi with crown prince mohammed and solomon. now more than 100 days after khashoggi's murder in the saudi consulate in his mold. >> we will continue to have conversation with the crown prince that the accountability is full with respect to the un-

acceptable murder of jamal khashoggi. we will make sure we have all the facts so that they are held accountable certainly by the saudi's, but by the united states as well. >> the saudi saudi government discharged 11 suspects in his murder and that is pursuing the death penalty for five of them. democrats and some republicans have called for suspension and u.s. weapons sales to saudi arabia over khashoggi's murder. secretary pompeo arrives after meetings today in doha qatar. they announced the u.s. plans to expand its presence at the airbase. the facility hosts the largest u.s. military installation in the region. for the past year and a half, qatar has been under blockade from saudi arabia, the united arab emirate, bahrain and egypt. secretary pompeo says that dispute has gone on for far too long. about a year and a half now and he says the dispute is also hampering u.s. efforts to coordinate a response to iranian

israeli military or government. the prime minister discussed the location and timing of the strikes confirming reports from. the media that the attacks occurred over the weekend. the syrian government filed a complaint with the united nations on saturday about the airstrike while the military claimed most were actually intercepted. the event comes days after u.s. secretary of state said in cairo, egypt the united states fully supports israel's right to defend up against iranian aggression. the country faces continued threat such as islamic jihadi in gaza and hezbollah in lebanon. they declared after finding a six attack into israel that they have completed the latest operation against the iranian backed group. whether the israelis would strike iran, prime minister benjamin netanyahu did not book the possibility. it comes as u.s. troops are preparing to leave syria. something that has allies in the region.

ever. let's bring in national security analyst rebecca graham. thank you for being here. first, your thought on the fact this information about the military option was even late denis reported. >> well, i'm glad the military options were considered. i am not glad they were leaked, but i'm glad the white house is doing his job. the event that set this off was the attack on u.s. embassy in baghdad and also attacks on the u.s. consulate in southern iraq, which had to be close. with iran behind all about, it was right and responsible at the white house to plan for potential military options. >> with that in mind do you think this leak should could have been intentional so the word would get out? >> it could've been because that's a potential diplomatic tool. what surprises me in a way as this is something i was a little bit different. we've had plans for a friend for a long time.

everything i'm a slap on the wrist to an all-out u.s.-led airstrike. this is probably a little bit different for a limited conventional option if you set it in terms of potential threat by iranian backed militia into her people in iraq, it makes a lot more sense. president trump is pretty careful in his use of force, so i think the option was a lot more like the strikes of 2017 or the u.s. britain and france striker 2018. a cautious limited option. eric: let's get back to the top where we see that the head of iran's nuclear program said iran had begun preliminary activities for designing a modern process for 20% uranium enrichment for its research reactor, which by the way was donated by the u.s. in 1967 as you all know. the iran nuclear deal limited to 3.5%, but president trump pulled out of the deal last may. the president has reimpose

sanctions on iran and promises more to come. all of that said again, what about a military strike in iran? you sort of laid it out. a complicated web of bad actors. what a military strike make a bad situation worse was that an option you still believe the u.s. should keep in its arsenal? >> the u.s. has to keep these plans. we keep them for various reasons. we have these plans. the fog within our forces in the middle east is iran's airspace was open. we can go and take action if we need to. that's not going to happen unless as part of an international initiative. what i see with the 20% uranium enrichment, the talk about longer range missiles and space launch. the committees throughout the region. these are terrible initiatives on the part of iran's leadership. they are angry the europeans, turning the world against them and this really shows why iran has so many sanctions in place

struck and we need to see iran get back in its box. military pressure, all of it. eric: is just going to go there. they're looking closely to take advantage of an extraction of u.s. troops out of syria if they were to make traction they are also clear borders so they can get arms up to their terrorist groups. where is the already strained relationship between the u.s. and iran go from here? >> first of all, iran is very well we are not taking u.s. airpower and surveillance out of the region. we are not taking u.s. forces out of iraq. there is a strong u.s. coalition presence remaining there. iran is well aware that we are watching them at all times. as to where this goes longer-term, you know, we need to see iran settle down and it's harder to get the resolution.
